Pranayama+Asana+Beats

Back in July DJ HyFI  ( Ian Hyman ), who has become renowned for spinning music during yoga classes, combining his two passions of dj'ing and yoga, visited Hot Yoga Aurora for a workshop that was led by Melissa Williams. It was during this workshop that I realised the mood and energy that can be evoked through sound. Some instructors choose not to use music while teaching and some students find it distracting, the unspoken debate over music in the room comes down to what feels right for you, just like any other aspect of your practice.
The combination of the two arts can be powerful, as a testament to this yoga music festivals are on the rise, one of the more popular ones being Hanuman Festival which is held in Colorado every July. The Hanuman Festival often sees attendees like Sean Corne and musicians such as Suzanne Sterling. With that type of a line up,  festivals like these are sure to grow in popularity and size over the next few years further highlighting the connection between yoga and music.

Whether you are in the mood for devotional chanting, instrumentals, or some upbeat dance tunes , invite music into practice and see how it feels for you.
